Placements
BAfR has great links with a range of Universities and Colleges in northern England. As a result, we are able to take on placement students at various times throughout the year. We only accept students that are able to adapt to working in a challenging environment whilst using their academic skills to deal with many of the vulnerable and isolated individuals in our centre.
In return, BAfR is able to offer students a fantastic placement that is fully supported and supervised by our Volunteer Coordinator. Whilst on placement at BAfR, placement students will learn about the plight of refugees and asylum seekers, learn about the human side of the asylum process and most importantly they will discover more about themselves:
“Looking back I realise how hard I worked to gain the trust of this group as most of them were vulnerable and did not trust anyone. Since I was a new face at first it was very hard to communicate with the individuals but each week I worked harder and harder and never backed down. This had an outstanding outcome as they really relied on me and enjoyed my teaching and fully engaged with my sessions. ” (BAfR placement student, 2011)
If you are a University, College or Skills into Work agency and wish for one of your students/mentees to have a placement with us:
